aNTI - dISCRIMINATION pOLICY
Discrimination Defined:
Cambridge Dictionary defines discrimination as “Treating a person or particular group of people differently, especially in a worse way from the way in which you treat other people, because of their skin color, sex, sexuality, etc.:”
FIB defines discrimination as a malicious toxic culture that harms, intimidates, degrades, offends, and gives disadvantage to an FIB Employee, that can be in the workplace or in FIB related events.
Criteria of Discrimination:
- Conveyed through physical, and verbal means to put down individuals
- Persons with certain characteristics (see above) are treated less favorably than others.
- Creation of policies that puts certain individuals at a disadvantage.
- Presence of sexual harassment, unwanted sexual advances from people or non-consented explicit actions from workmates
- Their ability to work with other FIB members are hindered after the action has affected their working environment
- Their ability to socialize with other FIB members are hindered after the action has affected their social environment
- Decisions are made because of unfair representations of a certain FIB worker characteristics (see above)
Behaviors considered as discriminatory
The list created by FIB are actions that are considered as discriminatory, this list may be limited in scope, but this list offers as an example.
- Direct discrimination - treating someone unfavorably because of a personal characteristic protected by the FIB's Code of Conduct (i.e Discriminating lower ranks by not allowing them to be part of your group.)
- Indirect discrimination - Usually less obvious, but it occurs when a rule or plan of some sort is put into place which applies to everyone but could put some individuals with characteristics at an disadvantage (i.e meetings are set on GMT, but people in Europe and USA find hard to join the meeting, yet nothing is done to help them.)
- Harassment - Unwanted conduct to people, the purpose is to violate a person’s dignity or creating an intimidating, hostile and degrading environment to them. Bullying, Offensive Nicknames, gossip, Unwanted Sexual advances (i.e Asking for pictures, Sexual roleplay) qualify as Harassment. (i.e bullying someone of the opposite sex for not sending pictures of themselves in a provocative manner)
- Encouragement- Encouraging perpetrators to continue their actions, or supporting them with their actions by intentionally or purposefully not reporting it to HR+ (i.e deleting pictures of the bullying incident to avoid getting in trouble)
- Isolation - Shutting down, blatantly ignoring, refusing to comply tasks from a certain individual is considered as discrimination.
- Power Abuse - Kicking, logging false disciplinary logs against someone, demoting someone for personal reasons are considered as discrimination
- Attacking - Attacking fellow members for their actions or the way they work or talk is considered discriminatory (i.e attacking Pay Host for giving you 1c)
- Personal Attack - Revealing photos without consent, laughing at their problems and "doxxing" are considered discriminatory (i.e making memes at someone because their family member or someone they’re close with died from a pandemic or an illness.)
Addressing Discrimination
Discrimination is a heavy thing to accuse to someone, in cases of Discrimination, Heavy Evidences must support the claim of the discrimination.
Evidences can be either:
- Screenshots or Pictures
- Videos
